Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, successfully conducted a State-Level Mock Drill as part of the emergency preparedness and disaster response initiative. This critical exercise was organized to assess the hospital’s readiness and response mechanisms in the event of mass casualty incidents and natural disasters.

The mock drill was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Paul D. Khar, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Khasi Hills, and Dr. Santanu Deb, Medical Superintendent of Nazareth Hospital. The simulation was designed in alignment with the protocols issued by the State Disaster Management Authority and aimed at enhancing coordination among healthcare workers, emergency responders, and supporting departments.

The drill featured a realistic emergency scenario involving multiple simulated casualties, triage zones, and rapid medical interventions. Staff from various departments participated actively, demonstrating swift communication, effective role delegation, and clinical preparedness. Emergency protocols including patient triaging, stretcher movement, trauma management, and referral coordination were rigorously tested.

This exercise not only strengthened the hospital’s internal disaster management plan but also fostered greater inter-agency collaboration with local police, fire services, and ambulance units. Observers and evaluators noted areas of strength while providing constructive feedback for further improvements.

Nazareth Hospital remains committed to patient safety and quality care, and such mock drills are a testament to its dedication to continuous improvement in emergency healthcare services. The hospital extends its gratitude to all participants, coordinators, and authorities who contributed to the success of this important initiative.
