The department started in the year 2003. It was then headed by Dr Monica Kanpal. She ran the department till 2006. In 2006 Dr Henry B Nongrum Joined the department and since then had been associated with the hospital. It was started as a humble department which had grown over the years and is now a full-fledged well equipped Otolaryngology & Head Neck department. The Department is well equipped to carry out all the audiological and vestibular function test.

It is also running a routine Newborn hearing screening. It is accoutered with a TransnasalOesophagoscope (PENTAX) and a Slim Bronchoscope (PENTAX) which enable us to do a complete flexible endoscopies from nasopharyngeal Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Oesophagoscopy to Gastroscopy, both Diagnostic and Therapeutic.

All varieties of surgeries are being carried out in the department ranging from routine ENT surgeries like Tonsillectomy, Septoplasty, Tympanoplasty, Mastoidectomy, FESS , to Moderated Head and Neck Oncology service, Anterior Skull Base Surgery, Facio-Maxillary Surgery, Phonosurgery and Cosmetic/Corrective Surgery like Cleft Lip/Palate, Rhinoplasty.

Academically the department is also undergoing few research work under the leadership of Dr Henry B Nongrum.
